A heavy rainfall event in 2015 resulted in severe flooding in a number of areas in Chestermere. In order to alleviate future flooding concerns, a review of the Westmere Pond System was conducted and a recommendation made to add a storm pipe from Westmere Pond to Chestermere Lake.

The 1.2 kilometers of underground pipe will begin from an existing outlet control structure at the pond, and run adjacent to Chestermere Boulevard to discharge directly into the lake. The work will include three augured pipe crossings beneath Chestermere Boulevard and Windermere Boulevard; installing high-density polyethylene pipe through horizontal directional drilling. The trenches for pipe installation will be fenced in, with appropriate jersey barrier protection and construction signage.

No traffic interruptions are anticipated.
